Steven Humphreys began pursuing his interest in restoration ecology at the College of Forest Resources at the University of Washington, where he graduated with a BS in Conservation of Wildland Resources and a minor in Environmental Studies.  Steven began his professional career at EarthCorps before moving on to a Project Coordinator position at the Starflower Foundation, another local non-profit.  After deciding to test the waters as an independent contractor, he cut his teeth as a supervisor on Snohomish County Airport’s Swanson Wetland Mitigation Bank program, the first operating Wetland Mitigation Bank in Washington, and numerous other projects, before founding Restoration Logistics with Colin Macdonald.  A native Seattleite, Steven has used ski, bike, and kayak to thoroughly study the bioregion, and enjoys the dynamic, multidisciplinary nature of ecology, particularly aquatic ecosystems.

Colin Macdonald hails from Ontario, Canada where he obtained an honors degree in Biology and began a stint as a field ornithologist working on a number of field studies around North America.  A growing interest in environmental science led to further coursework and a contract researching and preparing a biological inventory for an Environmental Impact Study in Hamilton, Ontario.  Friends, family and good skiing brought Colin out west where he landed in Seattle and found a project manager position with a local non-profit conservation corps now known as EarthCorps where he worked for several years before founding Restoration Logistics with Steven Humphreys.  Colin enjoys the evolving, interdisciplinary nature of the ecological restoration field and continues to develop expertise in wildlife and habitat surveys, site assessment and monitoring, even managing to get out birding now and then.  Colin’s home ecosystem has expanded in recent years with the arrival of two sons, who keep him and his wife busy but delighted in their Mt. Baker home.

Derek Beauchemin has a B.S. in Environmental Science from Humboldt State University, where he developed and ran a very successful and still-functioning recycling program. Upon arriving the Pacific Northwest, he gained valuable botanical skills maintaining the University of Washington’s gardens at the Center for Urban Horticulture. Derek completed  several graduate level classes and was commissioned to conduct a survey on the interrelationships between White Bark Pine & White Pine Blister Rust in the North Cascades.  Just prior to coming to Restoration Logistics he worked at Oxbow Farm, a certified organic farm in the Snoqualmie Valley where there he designed, implemented and maintained an ecological mitigation project.  He found his ideal match with Restoration Logistics providing both the intellectual and physical challenge he was seeking and has moved through the ranks from field specialist to program manager. In his spare time he likes to spend his time hiking, reading and chasing Frisbees on an Ultimate field.

James Day spent his early years in the taiga forest of Northern Saskatchewan, Canada before moving to Washington State as a young boy.  Spent a year working for the Corps of Engineers on the restoration of the environment around the Mt. St. Helens Monument, before graduating from the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s in History of Biology.  Jim then spent a couple of years in the Peace Corps in the Philippines working on marine fisheries and forestry restoration.  After traveling and working in Asia, New York and Alaska, worked as a fisheries observer on long line vessels out of Honolulu and spent several years with the US Fish and Wildlife Service in New York and Hawaii on Law Enforcement and Refuge operations.  Jim began working for Restoration Logistics in 2002 and has since become an invaluable member of our team.
